Keeping in mind the serious situation all <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.aqi.in\">Indian cities<\/a><\/strong><\/span> are, air pollution has taken over the entire country. Here is a shocking situation of air pollution in Indian cities.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; color: #000000;\">The rise in air pollution in Indian cities has forced citizens to breathe poor quality of air. Especially in cities where <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.aqi.in\/blog\/people-country-choke-pollution-level-rises\/\">people are choking on polluted air<\/a><\/span><\/strong> \u2013 have a detrimental impact on their health and wellbeing.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pranaair.com\/air-sanitizer\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3341\" src=\"https:\/\/www.aqi.in\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/prana-air-sanitizerpurifier-covid19-killer.png\" alt=\"prana air sanitizer+purifier covid19 killer\" width=\"1200\" height=\"600\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; color: #000000;\">WHO Studied Air Pollution in Indian Cities<\/span><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; color: #000000; font-size: 12pt;\">World Health Organization (WHO) in 2016, studied various factors contributing to air pollution in Indian cities. The study found that 22 out of 30 world\u2019s polluted cities belongs to India. With the highest PM (particulate matter) 2.5 at 173, Kanpur emerged as the first city from India to be the most polluted among all the mentioned places.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">It has been estimated that in 2016 alone, over 9 lakh deaths in India were caused due to air pollution. Faridabad, Varanasi, Gaya, Patna, <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.aqi.in\/blog\/study-reveals-pollution-in-haridwar-gets-worse-in-summer-due-to-vehicular-emission\/\">Delhi<\/a><\/strong><\/span>, Lucknow and Agra were some other cities with a higher concentration of Particulate Matter 2.5.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff; font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif;\"><strong>Read &#8211;\u00a0<a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.aqi.in\/blog\/environmental-problems-in-bihar-are-putting-lives-at-stake\/\">Environmental Problems in Bihar Are Putting Lives at Stake<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000;\">Country\u2019s capital \u2013 New Delhi also gained a <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.orfonline.org\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">reputation for poor air quality<\/a><\/span><\/strong> all year along. In the past few years, there has been a numerous case where the city woke up with a thick blanket of smog. Due to which the capital was declared of public health emergencies. A number of flights and trains were canceled due to haze and unclear vision. Many schools were closed due to poor air quality in the city.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; color: #000000;\">Sources of air pollution in Indian cities<\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; color: #000000;\">There are multiple sources of air pollution and they can vary due to many underlying factors.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; color: #000000;\">However, vehicular emissions and crop burning in multiple <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aqi.in\/blog\/how-the-dust-storm-in-delhi-has-contributed-to-the-ever-worsening-air-pollution\/\"><strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">northern cities<\/span><\/strong><\/a> are the main cause of the rise in air pollution in the northern region of India. Depleting tree covers and poor management of waste and dumping is another reason for the declining air quality of the country.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; color: #000000;\">Vehicular emissions, crop burning, generation of dust- particularly from construction sites, depleting tree covers and poor waste management \u2013 all contribute towards the declining air quality.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; color: #000000;\">The <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">real problem with combating air pollution<\/span><\/strong> at the city level is the rise in factors that contributes to the pollution level.
