As the AQI increases, it means that a large percentage of the population will experience severe adverse health effects. The measurement of the <\/span><b>AQI <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">requires an <\/span><b>air monitor<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and an <\/span><b>air pollutant<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> concentration over a specified <\/span><b>averaging period<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The results are grouped into ranges, and each range is assigned a descriptor, a color code and a standardized <\/span><b>public health advisory<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Historically, all Replica watch continents have been using the AQI established by the <\/span><b>United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which is a piecewise linear function of the pollutant concentration. If multiple pollutants are measured at a monitoring site, then the biggest AQI value in one hour average is reported for that location. However, air pollution in each country is very much specific to the country pollution type. <\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Air Quality Index in India<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The pollution sources in <\/span><b>India<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> &#8211; and in most asian countries &#8211; are numerous and incompletely understood. In <\/span><b>Delhi<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, for example, it comes mostly from light and heavy duty vehicle traffic emissions, road dust, solid fuel combustion for heating and cooking, biomass, waste burning, thermal power plants, diesel generators, construction and small-scale local industries. That\u2019s why each country has to have their own AQI values.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The<\/span><b> National Air Quality Index Standard (NAQI)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in India was launched by The Minister for Environment, Forests &amp; Climate Change, Shri Prakash Javadekar, on 17 September 2014. The initiative constitutes part of the Government\u2019s mission to introduce the \u201cculture of cleanliness\u201d, as the air pollution has been a huge concern in the country, especially in urban areas. The <\/span><b>National Air Monitoring Program (NAMP)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, that covers 240 cities in the country, has been operated by the \u00a0<\/span><b>Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and developed by the <\/span><b>Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur<\/b> <b>(IIT)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, providing data in public domain, on real time basis. You can access it by clicking <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/164.100.160.234:9000\/#\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">here<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To understand how the <\/span><b>AQI<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> works, you just have to know the <\/span><b>six range categories<\/b> <b>(Good, Satisfactory, Moderately Polluted, Poor, Very Poor, and Severe)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and check the associated health impacts. Compared to the other countries, ambient fine particulate matter (PM2.5) levels in Delhi rank among the highest levels measured in any city in the world: about 15 times higher than the World Health Organization (WHO) guideline concentrations. This means that several interventions to change this scenario must be taken by the government and the local population, otherwise we\u2019re gonna still be facing a lot of health and environmental implications due to air pollution.
