It dissolves very easily in water. This gas can be dissolved in the environment through air and water both which could be converted into sulphuric acid while in the air and sulphuric dioxide while in water.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>What causes Sulphur Dioxide in the environment?<\/strong><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\nIt is one of the important pollutants causing air pollution and is mostly caused by human sources and generally formed by industrial materials like coal, oil and gas. But the primary sources of sulphur dioxide emissions are from fossil fuel combustion and natural volcanic activity.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-162\" src=\"https:\/\/aqi.in\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/maxresdefault-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"620\" height=\"349\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Sulphur Dioxide and Health Effects.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Exposure to sulphur\u00a0dioxide through inhaling it is extremely dangerous and life-threatening as it makes the lung functioning changes and causes nasal and throat difficulties and severe airway obstructions.\u00a0 It also irritates the skin and mucous membranes of the eyes, nose, throat, and lungs. High concentrations of SO<sub>2<\/sub>\u00a0can cause inflammation and irritation of the respiratory system, particularly during heavy physical activity.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>There are also other several health-related\u00a0problems that are caused of Sulfur Dioxide:-<br \/>\n&#8211;\u00a0<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Corneal Haze, which is the creation of cloudy appearance in the cornea.<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8211; Breathing difficulty is caused.<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8211; Airway inflammation causing a lot burning in the airway.<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8211; Heart Failure.<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8211; Causing higher mortality rates.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>People getting affected by Sulphur Dioxide.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In general, there are different kinds of people who, by inhaling SO2 are affected grievously\u00a0by the content of the pollutant being a cause of high levels of Air Quality.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Children &#8211; Children are most affected by inhaling SO2 as they are more prone to getting asthma at a\u00a0young age. Lower SO2 levels can cause more health risk and be more harmful to the Air Quality Index(AQI).<\/li>\n<li>Old Adults &#8211; They are at higher risk as they could already be having different lung and heart-related diseases due to the bad quality of air causing air pollution.<\/li>\n<li>People with lung disease &#8211; People with diseases like Emphysema, asthma and other respiratory diseases would face more severe health issues from inhaling SO2.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Standards for AQI.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In general terms, the standard Concentrations of SO<sub>2<\/sub>\u00a0in the ambient air twice the current standards are associated with adverse health effects.\u00a0There is no basis for relaxation of the present standards for sulphur oxides at this time.<\/p>\n<p>This is the table showing the basic standard of SO2 moderation for Air Quality.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-160\" src=\"https:\/\/aqi.in\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/SO2-1024x474.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"794\" height=\"367\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What is Sulphur Dioxide?
