Air Pollution

8 Memes on Air Pollution that will open your eyes to the harsh reality.

A picture is worth a thousand words. It holds true for the modern scenario where people obtain all their information and current affairs via memes. So, we decided to go with the flow. Here are our picks of 8 memes on air pollution that will make your conscience quiver. It is high time that we start caring about air.

#1. You might think the trouble is over. But is it? Or is it just a cover?

After Diwali, Mother Nature blessed the Delhiites with a sudden downpour that had a calming effect on the air quality. It did not get as bad as it might have, with Delhiites flouting the fire-crackers ban. Yet, the AQI was found to be beyond the admissible levels. An air quality index of 370 still falls in the ‘Hazardous’ category.

It makes air quality monitoring even more necessary as we can’t sense the danger.

#2. Diwali + COVID-19= The Deadly Duo

In 2020, the risk had doubled. Despite the ongoing pandemic, the Diwali preparations were in full swing. And so was the annual terror of winter pollution. The burning of firecrackers had been banned by a lot of states.

The problem wasn’t just limited to ‘severe’ air quality anymore. Since air pollution increases the risk of contracting COVID-19, lives were at stake.

Yet a lot of people went out bursting crackers. To those people-“IT WAS NOT JUST ABOUT YOU! BUT ABOUT THE PEOPLE YOU CARE ABOUT! IT WAS ABOUT ALL OF US! IT WAS FOR ALL THE LIVES! YOU SHOULD’T HAVE BURNT THE CRACKERS!”

#3. Beware! Things can always get worse.

Same time, same day, same month, the same location; but three different years.

Would you still not care about decreasing air quality? Would you still think that there are more crucial issues than fighting air pollution? Remember, things can ALWAYS get worse unless we make them better.

#4. Well that escalated quickly!

We need to set our priorities straight. The World Health Organization (WHO) states that 7 million people die prematurely worldwide annually due to air pollution. Yet, people do not take air quality seriously!

#5. Home is the safest one can be at. But is it?

The levels of indoor air pollutants are often 2 to 5 times higher than outdoor levels. Therefore, we must manage the indoor air quality at our homes cautiously.

#6. You might think it is over, but it is the end of just a chapter.

Last year, there was no stubble burning inside Delhi. But massive stubble burning took place in Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, and western UP, contributing to 45% of overall pollution levels in Delhi. This annual event begins with the onset of mid-October and exacerbates the problem of winter pollution.

This year, despite the available solutions, stubble burning continued and created a mess.

#7. And the jealousy transformed into sigh- The Cosmic Affair!

We should be ashamed of what we have made of our beautiful planet.

What we don’t realize is that the Earth doesn’t depend on us. We depend on Earth. Humans or no humans, the planet will remain!

#8. “You can’t see me!”, said the Air.

We tend to neglect air quality as it cannot be physically judged. Most of the air pollutants are microscopic and cannot be seen. But does that mean we shall breathe impure air?
