From reading research-based articles on how droughts are affecting the lives of people to scrolling health tips on Medium about dangerous sun exposures &#8211; We have all become well-aware that climate change is real.\u00a0From <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.aqi.in\/blog\/surviving-delhis-airpocalypse\/\"><strong>environmental health threats<\/strong><\/a><\/span> to hotter days (where did the winter go now?) to extreme storms and floods have impacted not only our surroundings but also our lives.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif;\">Amir Sapkota, a professor at the Maryland Institute for Applied Environmental Health, says, &#8220;<span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.aqi.in\/blog\/who-are-most-affected-by-air-pollution\/\"><strong>Climate change is impacting our communities<\/strong><\/a><\/span>, in our backyards, right now.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif;\">Jonathan Patz, M.D., MPH, director of the Global Health Institute at the University of Wisconsin, is an expert on climate change and public health shares\u00a0his view: \u201cIt\u2019s so important that people recognize that <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.aqi.in\/blog\/air-pollution-in-the-city-is-equivalent-to-smoking-5-7-cigarettes-a-day\/\"><strong>climate change<\/strong><\/a><\/span> is about our health. There are so many pathways through which climate impacts our health.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif;\">Climate Change and Public Health Go Hand-In-Hand<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2781\" src=\"https:\/\/www.aqi.in\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/ClimateChange_health_crisis_image.jpg\" alt=\"climate change and public health\" width=\"1000\" height=\"750\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; color: #000000;\">Here are some public health issues that are in direct relation to climate change:<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; color: #000000;\"><strong>Heat-aggravated illnesses<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; color: #000000;\">Scitienst, doctors, medical health experts are constantly advising to take <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.aqi.in\/blog\/delhi-air-pollution-is-worsening-capital-residents-health\/\"><strong>precautionary measures against the rising climate change<\/strong><\/a><\/span> effects on peoples&#8217; lives. As the global temperature becomes warmer, hot days are expected to become even more common and severe. Health issues among people such as heat stroke and exhaustion will become regular even for the people between 25-35 years of age. It is also expected that heat stress can also lead to cause or exacerbate cardiovascular or kidney problems.\u00a0Such risk factors can also make children and older adults vulnerable to the harmful effects of climate change. <\/span><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; color: #000000;\"><strong>Respiratory illnesses<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; color: #000000;\">Climate change is only going to make air quality worse if there is no reduction in greenhouse gas emission and atmospheric concentration. Warmer days will only lead to an increased amount of ground-level ozone which will further lead smog. <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.aqi.in\/blog\/the-common-link-between-climate-change-and-air-pollution\/\"><strong>Wildfire will start burning bigger<\/strong><\/a><\/span> and it will take place more frequently than ever. There will be a thousand times more dangerous particles and harmful gases in the air and allergy season will be more intensifying and in longer periods &#8211; IF PEOPLE DON&#8217;T PAY ATTENTION TO THE ALTERNATIVE WAYS OF LIVING STANDARDS.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; color: #000000;\">Sapkota says, &#8220;From your respiratory health such as asthma to cardiovascular diseases to mortality, you name it, air pollution affects so many different things.&#8221;\u00a0The World Health Organization has estimated that air pollution is responsible for about seven million deaths a year worldwide and found that reducing the burning of fossil fuels could avoid\u00a0<strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.who.int\/bulletin\/volumes\/97\/2\/18-224295\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2.5 million premature deaths<\/a><\/span><\/strong>\u00a0each year by 2050.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2787\" src=\"https:\/\/www.aqi.in\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/climate-change-and-public-health-blog.jpg\" alt=\"climate change and public health blog\" width=\"1000\" height=\"750\" \/><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; color: #000000;\"><strong>Diseases transmitted by insects and arachnids<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; color: #000000;\">As places, warm-up and frost-free seasons lengthen, disease-carrying creatures like mosquitoes and ticks are expected to expand their range and activity. Michael A. Robert, an assistant professor of mathematics at the private University of the Sciences in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, has studied risks of <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.aqi.in\/blog\/air-pollution-climate-change-can-make-your-allergies-worse\/\"><strong>increased dengue transmission<\/strong><\/a><\/span> in the U.S. in a warmer climate. He says that warming expands the mosquitoes\u2019 range and also can shorten the time diseases need to incubate before being transmitted.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; color: #000000;\">\u201cIf it\u2019s warmer, to a certain point anyway, the mosquitoes live longer, and the incubation period is much shorter,\u201d Robert said. \u201cThat creates a scenario when there can be a lot more transmission.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'book antiqua', palatino, serif; color: #000000;\">Tick-borne diseases are also affected by climate change.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/newsmaven.io\/indiancountrytoday\/opinion\/how-climate-change-threatens-public-health-vgrN9OVFcUusfCxRbiMEtQ\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Water is also important<\/span><\/strong><\/a> for both mosquito and tick populations \u2013 mosquitoes depend on standing water for breeding, and ticks need humid environments to rehydrate.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It is no longer shocking to people about how climate change and public health go hand-in-hand.
