Breathing the air in the capital comes at a cost and lately it\u2019s been the cost of life.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

According to the latest data from <\/span>Global Burden of Disease (GBD 2023)<\/b> released by the <\/span>Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) <\/b>and further analyzed by <\/span>Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air (CREA)<\/b>, air pollution deaths in Delhi 2023<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>accounted for nearly <\/span>15% of all deaths in 2023<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n

The data reveals that the<\/span> toxic air quality and air pollution<\/b> was the largest health risk<\/b> for residents and the<\/span> leading cause of deaths in Delhi in<\/b>\u00a02023<\/strong>, claiming the lives of an <\/span>estimated 17,188<\/b> people(15%). The other causes that followed were high systolic blood pressure(12.5%), diabetes(9%), high cholesterol(6%) and high body-mass index(5.6%).<\/span><\/p>\n

As a result, researchers at CREA conclude that the toll of pollution on people\u2019s lives has stayed alarmingly high. Moreover, it even exceeded the deaths caused by high blood pressure and diabetes which is highly concerning.<\/span><\/p>\n

    Construction, Demolition & Road Dust<\/b><\/h3>\nExponentially increasing urban expansion leading to heavy construction and demolition thereby create dust and coarse particles. Unpaved roads and movement leads to road\u2011dust which hence adds to the particulate load.<\/span><\/li>\n
