The ash cloud did pass over parts of India including <\/span><b>Delhi, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Punjab and Haryana<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> but <\/span><b>IMD has confirmed that it had <\/b><b>no significant impact<\/b><b> on ground-level air quality.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As of <\/span><b>10:30 pm on\u00a0 November 25, 2025 (Tuesday)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, IMD reported that the <\/span><b>entire ash plume has exited Indian airspace<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Monitoring satellites show no remaining concentration over the region.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2><b>Timeline: From the Ethiopia Eruption to Clearance Update<\/b><\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The episode began on <\/span><b>Sunday, when Ethiopia\u2019s Hayli Gubbi volcano erupted at 2:00 pm IST (8:30 am UTC) on November 23, 2025(Sunday)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0sending an ash plume soaring up to 14 km. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As strong upper-level winds carried it eastward, the plume reached <\/span><b>Delhi\u2019s upper atmosphere around 11 pm on November 24, 2025(Monday)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, prompting immediate monitoring by IMD. The plume drifted over Delhi, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Punjab, and Haryana through Tuesday. However, it stayed at high altitudes, with no impact on ground-level air quality.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Satellite imagery showed the cloud gradually moving out, and by <\/span><b style=\"color: initial;\">10:30 pm on November 25, 2025 (Tuesday), IMD confirmed that the Ethiopia Volcano Eruption ash had fully cleared Delhi and the rest of Indian airspace.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>\u00a0<\/h2>\n<h2><b>Delhi\u2019s Air Quality Stayed the Same Throughout- As told by Data<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-21938\" src=\"https:\/\/www.aqi.in\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/new-delhi-graph.png\" alt=\"New Delhi AQI graph\" width=\"1057\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Above graph from the data obtained via <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/aqi.in\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">AQI.in<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> shows that <\/span><b>Delhi\u2019s air quality was unaffected by the Ethiopia Volcano Eruption<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and all fluctuations were purely due to <\/span><b>local emissions and winter meteorology<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, exactly as IMD stated.<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On <\/span><b>23 November<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, hours before the Hayli Gubbi eruption\u2019s ash began travelling toward India, Delhi was already oscillating between <\/span><b>Very Poor and Severe<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the same range seen on 24, 25, and 26 November.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The characteristic cycle of <\/span><b>night-time build up, early-morning peak, and afternoon dip<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> continued unchanged across all four days.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There was <\/span><b>no new spike<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, no sudden jump in PM2.5, and no deviation from the usual inversion-driven curve.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>\u00a0<\/h2>\n<h2><b>Why Delhi\u2019s AQI did NOT spike due to the volcanic ash<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-21949\" measurable PM2.5\/PM10 rise from volcanic sources.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Pollution levels in Delhi during the period followed typical patterns, local emissions, low winds, and inversion, not by ash settling.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>IMD clarified there was no threat to public health at ground level.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Visibility, breathing comfort, and particulate levels at the surface stayed within the usual seasonal variability.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Transported ash tends to disperse before reaching the surface. <\/b>Thus, b<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">y the time the plume crossed India, most coarse particles had already
