This rapid retreat is consistent with monsoon rainfall suppressing road dust and construction particulates. The days surrounding 4 August tell a consistent story: 31 July brought AQI down to 101, and 3 August registered 112. This cluster of lower readings in the 1–5 August window likely reflects a spell of stronger monsoon activity over Delhi — heavier or more sustained rainfall that suppressed both coarse and fine particulates for a short period.

But the respite did not hold. By 5 August, AQI had rebounded to 126, and PM2.5 jumped back to 48. The final five days of the dataset — 6 to 10 August — show AQI values of 110, 114, 120, 135, and 137 respectively. That is a clear upward trajectory. PM2.5 on 9 August reached 56, just one unit below its monthly peak. PM10 remained relatively contained at 50–76 throughout this final stretch, confirming that the late-period AQI pressure is coming primarily from fine particles, not coarse dust.

For Delhi residents, this rebound matters. The monsoon's ability to clean the air is real but uneven. It handles coarse dust efficiently; it handles fine particles far less so.
