COVID-19: Common Myths and Facts

The truth and facts about who is most prone and defenseless against corona virus (COVID-19) infection and what can be done to avoid catching corona infection.

Claim one: ‘Face masks does not guarantee protection.’

Merely wearing a mask is surely not an sure-shot guarantee that you won’t get infected– viruses can also transmit through airborne aerosols and the tiny viral particles, can perforate mask layers. However, masks have been found effective at capturing tiny droplets, which could be one of the main transmitting route for corona virus, and some studies suggest, a roughly five times protection versus no face protection.

Claim: ‘Corona is like any other flu’

Corona infection or COVID-19 being a form of flu, displays all the symptoms of common flu, this make it extremely difficult to pin down without lab testing. Corona, on the other hand has been found highly contagious and rapidly spreading compared to common flu. Though the fatality rate has been found to be around 1%, the rate of spread is the most difficult thing about corona infection.

Claim: ‘Only kids and elderly are most likely to contract COVID-19’

The data gathered around the world suggests that this in fact has been found true to an extent. Data suggest that Corona infection has been proved fatal mostly in elderly above 60 years of age with existing heart and breathing problems. But, data also suggests that youngsters are equally prone of catching corona infection, though not proving to be as deadly in the elderly.
